Shipping event in London: “Cyprus Shipping: Recent Developments & Future Prospects”

The Department of Merchant Shipping hosted a shipping event in London on 7th July 2017, entitled: “Cyprus Shipping: Recent Developments & Future Prospects”. The aim of the event was to update executives from legal and shipping companies on the recent legislative developments for Cyprus Shipping, ship registration and taxation issues and ship finance in Cyprus.

The event was opened with a welcome address by H.E. the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mr. Euripides L. Evriviades, followed by a welcome address and introductory remarks by the Acting Director of the Department of Merchant Shipping, Mr Ioannis Efstratiou.

The main presentations of the event were:

  • Cyprus Shipping: An Overview of Recent Legislative Developments Ensuring its Further Competitiveness, given by Dr Anthony A. Madella, Head of the Legal and EU Harmonisation Division of the DMS
  • Ship Registration and Taxation in Cyprus: Advantages and Prospects from a Lawyers’ Perspective, given by Mr. Michael Mc Bride, Member of Shipping Committee, Cyprus Bar Association
  • Ship Finance in Cyprus from a Legal Point of View, given by Mr. Adam Montanios, Member of Shipping Committee, Cyprus Bar Association
